Ecumenism
Chalice
Christian Church seeks to promote ecumenical relationships by
working in partnership with our Ecumenical
Partner, the United Church of
Christ, with the other member churches of the newly created Churches
Uniting in Christ, and with other interested churches. Following Disciples' polar
star for church unity, we look for opportunities to relate and serve
together in mission, ministry, and fellowship in order to honor the One
Body of Christ.
Community Outreach
To facilitate our work in the
community, Chalice
Christian Church is a
member of Peninsula Interfaith Action (PIA), a federation of over thirty
congregations in San Mateo and Northern Santa Clara counties that builds
relationships with people in our communities to address issues
concerning them. Current efforts are focused on Affordable Housing and
Health Care access.
Participation in PIA led to the
establishment of Homework Central in partnership with two other
congregations. Homework Central provides after school tutoring to 3rd,
4th, and 5th graders at three sites in North Central San Mateo. Chalice
hosts a site at Martin Luther King, Jr. Center.
Chalice is also
a supporting congregation in the creation and on-going operation of the
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), a program that hosts homeless
families, a week at a time, in church buildings.
Chalice is proud of our
ecumenical and community outreach efforts and is confident that God is
working through us as we seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ bringing
hope and healing in this way.
